Just wanted to say hello. I believe we were in Ateneo HS around the same time although you're a few batches higher. No particular reason for this e-mail other than the fact that I am on the net the whole day at work and have been checking out localvibe during those dips in my supposedly productive work-day. While reading the various articles, I clicked on a
link to your website. I just enjoy reading anything Manila related and I have to say that you're being an Atenean somehow captures the oddness of Manila in a way very familiar to me.

After reading the account of your attack by those men..I was appalled. I hope that you have brought them to court and sued them for millions of
pesos for damages. Also...you could have dragged your former boss's ass to court for endangering you by enraging those people with your email that

If you didn't do it for yourself...you could have done it for the other future clients who who might get hurt by them if they criticized their unprofessionalism and shabby work. This is capitalism. The best products with the best merits will survive! While the inferior services and business must go down...like that color sep. service.

Anyways, maybe by dragging them to court...you may have prevented future people from getting hurt. It is by no means getting even. It is doing the Filipino society a favor by getting rid of fucking ruffians like them. You said even the employees joined in hitting you??? We should send a message that assholes like them in business will not be tolerated. Fucking animals!...

Subject: Fly Anniversary

Ah, the joy of it all...

this story (chismis) is for you - unless you've heard about it already. Also, it would probably help if you can get additional details because my sister's account tends to be very stilted...

This is not a chain message nor is it an urban myth - haha!

Anyway, my sister's friend, Yason Banal - who is an installation artist (or whatever he calls his job nowadays) - was approached by the Fly people to do an installation at the anniversary party three days before the event. Yason felt insulted because as an artist (and I suppose, realistically) he feels that 3 days is not enough to develop an installation. He decided to humor the Fly people and asked what they had in mind in terms of concept. The Fly people said, "you know something edgy, post-modern, blah-blah," and this majorly ticked Yason off because his body of work comprised of unique (and actually, edgy) stuff which he did not want to turn into a novelty or trivialized or presented as "wow, edgy".

Well, he decided to do the installation to prove a point to the Fly people. They even adverstised it on the radio, so I guess it got some coverage and mileage. His installation comprised of sealed plastic bags with live frogs which he put all over the venue. He even put one on top of the stack of Fly magazine giveaways. Man, it repulsed and pissed a lot of people off saying it was disgusting and cruel (since the frogs were slowly suffocating int he bags). A lot of people complained and cried (and puked - I can imagine). All the while, Yason would say - that's my art - if you find it disgusting and cruel, you can set the frogs free. But no one did. And I guess the anniversary celebration got shot to hell...

My sister asked Yason why he used frogs and he simply replied, "Frogs eat flies."
Or something like that....

Congratulations on the web site!

Had fun reading the fly saga, however, I disagree. Philip has been pretty lucky not being sued by anyone yet. I kid you not, no lawsuits! Suing Suck Cess would at least bring attention to the stench that permeates that certain address in Cubao.

Anyway, read your account of Agnes leaving. Looks like a major step for a self confessed grunt and gestures guy, at least when it comes to mushy matters. Guys like you make me think that it's not so hopeless at all. :-) Wishin you good vibes.
