J O U R N A L : 2001

welcome

june 27, 01

A.W.O.L., AMUCK, ADRIFT

I haven't been back in a while. See, in the interim, several things have happened. And several things I've had to give up.

First off, work is bad. With less content people in my office, the majority of the content falls onto my lap. I have to rush to meetings with my big boss here in the office. Now, while other people might take this as a good sign-- manna from heaven, a step up whatever ladder this corporation has-- me, I kinda hate it. First off, because the meetings take so long. Secondly, because the work isn't what it used to be.

Second. In an effort to make my marriage work, I decided to quit gigs. As in, no more nights out, playing with my band or with the acoustic duo I've been with a few years now. Relationships need time to work. Gigs take too much time and strength away. My wife didn't come out and say I had to quit, rather, I opted to give up something in order to help this marriage grow some more. And just this June 10, 2001, we've officially made it past our first year and are heading off into the second.

digital audio--finallyThird. With the live performances out of my sked, I've had more time to finally get up to speed with the technologies available to today's desktop musician. I've sunk my teeth into the terrifyingly addictive audio program Acid Pro. I've begun to fathom the higher functions of audio editor Sound Forge. I'm making loops, copying loops, recording digital audio, remixing, and reading up on codecs and compression. It's a wonderful new world of software for someone like me, who used to swear by his audio hardware.

Fourth. This website has been raided and wiped out too many times. It's frustrating to keep adding onto something that might just disappear altogether. I'm talking about JPEGs disppearing and content wiped out. Someone's been breaking into my stuff and stealing wholesale. Ah, but that's the web, right?

Fifth. Life is too good to waste worrying about whether there are people reading your online journal. If there are people who stumble into this by accident, great! But if not... then there is no need to fret. And there is no pressure to keep a steady stream of content. Or is there?

As usual, I procrastinate. I wanted to say, welcome back to whoever's out there. And hope you enjoy while you're at the AcidPit!
